Discover a small breeding colony of African penguins beforehand and also taste South Africa's award wining cool climate wines in the Hemel n Arder wine region. Explore an untamed Moravian town from the 1820s called Elim and enjoy plenty photo opportunities as we traverse the extreme south coast of the country on this tour. Itinerary
Stoney point
Betty's bay is a long and narrow coastal town an hour east of Cape town. Established as a whaling station in the late 1800s, Betty's bay is now known more for its unusual resident. The African penguin! The penguins settled here at Stoney point beach in the twilight of the 20th century and thus made Stoney point one of the only 2 mainland penguin colony with the other one being Boulders beach near Cape point. Guests will have some time to walk along the penguin beach and see the penguins from a very close range
Hamilton Russell
It would be injustice to drive through one of the best wine regions in the country and not stop. Being the closest to the sea and also on a higher altitude, the hemel n aarde (Heaven and earth) wine region makes a perfect climate for cool climate grape variety and thus producing some of the best pinot noirs and Chardonnay wines in the Country. Hamilton Russell is among others a successful wine estate in this region and your guide will gladly usher you to the tasting room for your sole wine tasting experience on this adventure.
Hermanus
Hermanus is a quaint and coastal town just an hour and a half east of Cape town City. Known for its sea food restaurants and also the Southern right whale's breeding waters. Should guests be interested, Intriguing coastal walking trails are always not to be missed and during the whale season, one could be lucky to spot the whales without having to go on a boat. While we are still in Hermanus, guests will also have a chance to take a lunch break before the journey resumes
Elim
From Cape Agulhas,our journey will take us through a picturesque 1824 established village called Elim.Elim was established by German settlers as the 3rd Moravian station near Cape town and very little has changed over the years.Rows of white washed thatched cottages and fig trees dominates the streets of this little charming village and all the streets leads to the church in a spiraling fashion.Guests will be given some time to walk around and take pictures or even visit town's small rose garden.
Cape Agulhas
3 hours South east of Cape town City is the most Southern tip of the African continent. Cape Agulhas. Where the Indian ocean meets with the Atlantic. Situated within the Cape Agulhas national park, the rugged coastline at the tip of Africa is always sprawling with over 21 000 migrant and resident wetland and seabirds of different types. The Serengeti of the seas, named after its diversity in marine life is also a part of the Cape floral kingdom. The richest floral kingdom in the world! About 2000 different plant species are resident to this area and with over a 100 being endemic. While we are here, guests will have ample time to explore the coastal plains of the Cape Agulhas and also visit the Cape Agulhas lighthouse which is the second oldest lighthouse in South Africa. An optional walk up to the summit of the lighthouse also provides one with a bird's eye view of the town and a museum at the bottom with a many interesting historical information and artefact.
