45 minutes to an hour North East of Cape town City are two of South Africa’s best wine producing towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Both towns are also revered as one of the best gastronomical towns in the world and with Franschhoek having been listed in year 2022 as one of the best towns to visit in the world by Times magazine. Franschhoek which means the French’s corner started growing grapes for wine in the 1680s after a group of French Huguenots fleeing religious persecution in France were settled here by the Dutch settlers whom had already been permanently living in the Cape town area some 30 years earlier. Just like Franschhoek, Stellenbosch is also a historic wine growing town and with good food. Her streets are lined up with oak trees that are over 2 centuries old. Her white Cape Dutch buildings of the 17th and 18th century gives visitors a sense of an old European village and a bygone era.
